YOUNG COLORECTAL CANCER SURVIVOR
EDUCATES OTHERS IN UNCONVENTIONAL WAY:
SARAH KINCAID, 36, IS MISS SEPTEMBER IN 2005 COLONDAR


Sarah Kincaid was just 28 years old when she was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer. Now 36 and cancer-free for almost eight years, Sarah is going to extraordinary lengths to educate others about colorectal cancer.

Sarah is featured as Miss September in the 2005 Colondar – a 12-month wall calendar of beautiful young female colorectal cancer survivors. Each month of the 2005 Colondar features a young woman along with a short biography chronicling her individual experience with colorectal cancer.

The 2005 Colondar is the newest project of The Colon Club, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating about colorectal cancer in out-of-the-box ways. Sarah first heard from Molly McMaster, co-founder of The Colon Club, when another model suggested that Sarah might be willing to model. She agreed immediately.

“I was very excited when Molly emailed me,” said Sarah. “As a long-term survivor, I believe that it is my mission to help others. I wanted to make the most of this chance to help educate about this extremely preventable disease.”

In July of this year, Sarah met eleven other young survivors when they all came together in upstate New York for the 2005 Colondar photo shoot. “It was an awesome weekend and we accomplished so much,” said Sarah. “I think all of the models have the same goals – to educate as many people as possible about colorectal cancer and to save as many lives as possible. I truly believe that the Colondar will help reach those goals.” Sarah also keeps her own personal fitness goals in mind – the day after her early-morning photo shoot, she completed a triathlon with her sister!

Sarah graduated from Wheaton Central High School and the University of Iowa at Iowa City. She lives in Chicago with her husband. She is an avid runner, participates in recreational triathlons, and enjoys hiking and travel.
